Since Grade 3, I was sure it was my destiny to be a writer. And despite the fact that I graduated from Grant MacEwan’s Journalism Program in 1985 with some of the top marks in my class, I wasn’t sure if being a reporter was ‘right’ for me. Then after working at two different weekly newspapers, I knew it wasn’t. Disheartened that my educational choice had not turned into what I’d hoped, but still wanting to be a writer, I often wished that I could work for a magazine that I loved and really believed in.
I went on to work at different administrative positions, never quite giving up on my dream of being a writer. When I lived in Saudi Arabia with my husband, I dabbled in journalism again by creating, writing and producing a professional magazine/newsletter for a large engineering firm there. Back in Canada I worked as an Executive Assistant at TELUS (in the Office of the President) before leaving to have my daughter in 2000. My whole life changed very dramatically that year and I began a new life path, taking many different personal and spiritual development courses, including many levels in John Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy, Doreen Virtue’s Angel Therapy Practitioner course and more.
One of the main reasons I took all the CranioSacral courses was because, as a baby, Gabrielle would sporadically suffer from a severe kink in her neck (that would make her cry and crawl in circles) and the only thing that helped her was CranioSacral Therapy. So I took as many courses as I could to ensure that I could instantly help her whenever it happened and it has been a wonderful gift that I’ve been very grateful for.
When the unexpected opportunity to take over Mosaic Magazine came in January 2004, I felt like my secret wishes and dreams had come true! I quickly merged my journalism and my love for personal and spiritual development into the magazine. We’ve come a long way since then! The little black and white newsprint magazine blossomed into a beautiful full color gloss magazine in 2007 and we continued to publish it until the end of 2018. And now, once again, we’ve evolved into something equally as beautiful with our online magazine that I hope will help even more people than the printed magazine did.
I want the information in Mosaic to be a catalyst, a stepping stone to change whatever is not working in your life or to explore new parts of who you are. I want you to read about what’s available and then go and experience it for yourself. Why? Because experiencing something can change your life in a way that reading words can’t (although I know how truly powerful the written word is and how just one sentence or thought can profoundly change who we are). But the new information is just a stepping stone on your journey, an invitation to go and personally experience something so it has real potential to be truly life changing.
For example, you can read all feng shui articles and books you want, but it can never compare to having a feng shui consultant go through your home and tell you to ‘move that mirror’ to create more abundance or ‘change that picture’ to improve your relationships. You can read all the astrological horoscopes you want but it will never compare to the deep insights you will get from having a personal reading based on your specific place, date and time of birth. You can read about reiki or other energy bodywork, but anyone who has ever been changed or healed by it knows that it is the experience itself that contains the magic.
It is my deep belief in the powerful magic of the mind-body-spirit connection that inspired (and continues to inspire) me to have this mosaic array of information available for you. After 14 years, when the printed magazine ended in late 2018, I didn’t know if I had it in me to transform Mosaic again into an online magazine, but this calling to help others is so deeply ingrained in me… And I know I’m not alone. I share this space with many other bright beings of light, each of us called to serve in a different way. The planet is waking up and so are we. When one of us heals, we all heal. When one us grows, we all grow. In the end, my story is your story and your story is mine. We are truly all in this together.
I love the advice given on the Ho’zho oracle card (The Beauty Way of the Navajo) from the Earth Warrior Oracle, © Alana Fairchild (Blue Angel Publishing, 2018). I have a copy of it on my desk to remind me that I don’t need to settle or worry, but instead need to open myself up to the possibility of a beautiful solution.
“There is a beautiful solution available. Do not place your faith in worry or stress. Allow life to unfold. As you relax and give yourself permission to rest within the vastness and beauty of nature, you will become receptive to the best way to handle things. Don’t try to figure it out by force. Let go and trust that what is needed is coming to you at the perfect time and in the perfect way. Your peaceful mind shall perceive readily and accurately all that you need to know.
The Beauty Way reminds you that beneath the noise, beneath your worries and concerns, there is oneness between you and life. Even if your world may feel chaotic at times, even if you fear that you have gone off track, the path that will return you to peace, beauty, balance and harmony is always here for you. You do not have to become stressed or exhausted to fix what isn’t working. Solutions can come to you more easily when you allow yourself to drop out of the pain and into the please of the Beauty Way. Sometimes, problems will disappear altogether in this place, and you shall realize that they were nothing more than the dark creation of an overworked fatigued mind. Sometimes, you will discover a different way to look at things, a helpful vision gifted by Great Spirit, and gain the energy to become productive, applying a simple and inspired idea that changes everything…
When some form of ugliness is disturbing your soul, threatening to steal your peaceful trust in the Divine, you are guided to come back to the Beauty Way, back into worshipful reverence of the sacred. From that place, you then become empowered to deal with the situation in a way that increases love and joy in yourself and the world. Rather than being overtaken by the ugliness, you are able to offer beauty instead…”
