How Does Mercury Affect You?

by Gagan Mann ~

It’s Gemini season!

This mutable air sign is the connector of all sorts. Gemini is ruled by Mercury and heavily relies on gathered information. Gemini is smart, curious, intellectual, flexible and can be a jack of all trades and master of none.

Wherever Gemini lies (in an individual’s chart) is where the focus of Mercury is.  This month let’s focus on Mercury and some of its aspects, and how Mercury is affecting you in your life.

Mercury is a kind of traffic director influencing various movements within our bodies. Symbolically seen as a messenger of the gods, it is also the messenger of the nervous system, relaying split-second commands throughout the body.  Here are a few key points about Mercury:

  • Traits:  Mental energy, active mind, rational mind, messenger, awareness, intelligence and young people.
  • Governs:  All forms of communications and miscommunications, and relating of information and perceptions.
  • Duration:  88 days to one year to orbit Earth due to retrograde motion.
  • Asks: “What do I analyze and what is practical?”
  • Rules: Virgo and Gemini.
  • Anatomy: Nervous system, brain sight, mouth, tongue, respiratory system, hands, arms and thyroid.
  • Vitamin:  Rules the Thiamine (vitamin B-1).

Mercury has been retrograding (moving slower than Earth) in Gemini and starts to move direct at 26 degrees of Taurus on June 3. You may have experienced communications being very airy and fleeting. It should start to feel more promising in Taurus after the first week of June.

Middle May ~ June 14 – Mars has been hanging very close to Jupiter.  Our primal nature and our will receive a shot of steroids. This is a time to get some real heavy lifting done.  It’s a good time for any projects that need physical strength to get them off the ground.

May 18 ~ June 21 – Mercury trines Pluto.  The third week of June is a weak aspect because it is out of its sign, but nevertheless important. Communications of any type are changing and transforming into something more genuine. Pluto is not soft but rather explosive so be mindful of your own words. Intensity is part of the theme in talks, so if conversations explode then the lesson was about dishonesty and falsehood.

May 25 – Mars changes signs from Pisces to Aries giving a real boost of energy and courage to move forward. The last time Mars was in Aries was from July to December 2020. Similar themes may resurface for the six weeks when Mars is in Aries. Look for what you might have dipped your toes into and not acted. Are you still inspired and motivated for the same purposes? Mars in Aries is action oriented and wants to go out and just do it. If you have been suffering from lack of motivation, then June might be the month to get going again.

May 30 – We come into the month with a new moon in Gemini on May 30. It’s the perfect time for planting seeds of new ways of thinking and communicating to help gain new insights.

End of May ~ June 19 – Mercury squares Saturn. Father Time is questioning our accountability regarding our resources and what we know. Are we using information carefully? Are we using what we own responsibly? We are bombarded with so much information and it is our responsibility to use it wisely.

June 2 ~ June 19 – Venus conjuncts Uranus in Taurus. Relationships may seek some real excitement. Uranus always produces unexpected events and causes disruptions, but new stimulation can be very exciting in relationships – but know that it is very short lived.

June 3 – Mercury motions direct in Taurus.  All of May (until June 19) Mercury squares Saturn. Ways of thinking are more practical during this transit. Careful, precise thinking is the theme of any talks during this time. It may feel a little heavy but in the long run it will pay off to read the fine print.

June 5 – Saturn will start its retrograde period until October 2022.  For these five months we may be looking at some of the laws, structures and systems in place for humanity which may not be working.

At a personal level, the house that Saturn is transiting (for you) should be paid close attention to. As Robert Hand mentions in his book Planets in Transit (Schiffer Publishing, 2022), life cycles for living. No matter how unpleasant a Saturn transit seems, it represents what you really want in life and is helping you get it. Most people are out of touch with what they truly want. If you thoroughly understand your needs and wants, you will find that Saturn simply brings about their manifestation.

The losses that Saturn brings are of things that you do not want or need. It’s time to re-invent, experiment, innovate and liberate yourself.

June 8 ~ June 28 – The Sun in Gemini inconjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. An inconjunct can present itself in stress and illness if you haven’t paid attention to yourself. The physical body can show signs of neglect and abuse. Our sense of self may need some pruning.

It’s a good time to look how you have been shaped and what isn’t serving you anymore. This air and earth element can come with challenges as air moves faster than the earth, meaning that the mind has so many ideas, but we need to slow down for them to manifest. Our solar energy wants to move and shake things, but the Pluto energy questions the foundation.

June 12 ~ June 28 – Pluto squares Venus. The last week in June is a weaker aspect as it is out of sign. Relationships may be going through death and rebirth, pruning away any dead pieces that don’t serve your highest purpose.

June 14 – Super full Moon in Sagittarius.  It’s a good time for some fun, travel, vacation, sports, and entertainment. This full Moon is squaring Neptune so be mindful of boundaries and pay attention to safety and regulations.

June 14 – T-square of the Sun, Moon and Neptune.  The Moon opposes the Sun and both the Moon and the Sun square Neptune.  Neptune can cloud one’s judgment and create a feeling of having “rose colored” glasses where everything looks just peachy. It might be a good idea to revisit the potential intention set back in early December 2021 when there was a new moon solar eclipse in Sagittarius.  Check in with your intention of that time. Also, domestic affairs may need attention.

June 20 ~ July 3 – Mars sextiles Saturn and this fire and air combination may give the much needed boost to projects needing assistance to move forward.  Projects which require patience will greatly benefit since Saturn represents patience and when it partners up with Mar’s energy in a sextile, then it can present itself with abilities to move forward with bare minimal and still attain the goals.

June 28 – New Moon in Cancer. It’s a watery moon so one might feel like being more of a hermit and just nestle in their shell. Rituals or ceremony of creating safety and security can be beneficial. Your home and dwelling may benefit from rejuvenation.
