Grow & Expand With Sagittarius

by Gagan Mann ~

Happy birthday to all the Sagittarius out there!  This mutable fire sign is ruled by the planet Jupiter and simply means that themes of fun, optimism, expansiveness, growth, faith and learning is in the cards. Traditionally it was known as the “Greater Benefic” (meaning nothing but good comes your way) but we all know how life can go.

In the month of December let’s look at how the planets are helping all of us grow and expand.

When we talk about growth and expansion, we can’t surpass the nodal axis. Currently, we have a north node in Sagittarius and a south node in Gemini. The north node is where the point of growth and new skills is, and the south node is our past learnings, a place of comfort and past experiences.

This Sagittarius Gemini axis looks at themes around learning by going from place to place, changing and shifting colors like a chameleon, and finally coming to place to find deeper understanding of the purpose for living.

Martin Schulman wrote in his book Karmic Astrology (Red Wheel/Weiser, 1984) that the Moon’s nodes and reincarnation that people with the north node in Gemini are often introduced to their spiritual purpose by an enlightened older individual from a foreign land.  Jupiter’s rulership of Sagittarius shows us how we must step outside our family of origin to find ourselves and go on our own spiritual quest. The Sun (being in Sagittarius) brings attention to themes around growth and finding purpose.

The Sun opposes the north node and conjuncts the south node until December 3.  We must trust our intuition and work on the mind chatter that goes on in the double brain (Gemini). We must make space to listen to our higher mind via mindfulness, meditations, etc. Our sense of self has a chance to solidify itself by tapping into learnings from past experiences and events. This is a great opportunity to expand your emotional IQ.

Mars is opposing Uranus from end of November to December 2.

This Taurus and Scorpio polarity brings up issues around holding on and purging. Our will and drive are watered down in Scorpio. This teeter-totter aspect is one which needs feeding from both the polar points to create balance. Mars in Scorpio wants to move fast and get things done but it is on a scale with Uranus in Taurus which is holding onto so much earthly goods. One must create space for growth by purging and decluttering the mind of things and materials that do not serve any more.

The first week of December until December 7, the Sun in Sagittarius sextiles Saturn in Aquarius. This fire and air combination brings good flow around achievements and recognitions. Efforts must be solid and responsibilities must be in check.

From the end of November to December 18, the Sun conjuncts Mercury in Sagittarius. There are themes around learning to take actions that expand awareness, exploring the meaning of life, natural laws and the cosmic truth. There are also themes around our faith in our self and faith itself. It’s time to sow seeds with new courses that expand the mind. Just be mindful to not bite more than you can chew.

From November 21 until January 12, Venus conjuncts Pluto. Relations of all sorts are greatly affected when Venus snuggles up with a plutonic force; be prepared for some explosions. Venus wants to create beauty, resources, children and education but Pluto wants to destruct and construct. This can be very challenging because you might find yourself fighting a losing battle but rest assured that the seeds that fall during the fire will prop open from the heat one day and grow strong. This is a time of radical transformations and breaking out of old patterns that inhibit growth.

The Sun sextiles Jupiter from December 7 – 17. Sextiles are beautiful flowing aspects which offer opportunities. The Sun in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Aquarius offers expansion of the sense of self. Our prana gets lifted by feeling good while helping others. There might be experiences that build confidence and vitality. You may also get a chance to look at areas of your life where you do too much and create boundaries.

Venus retrogrades on December 19 until January 28. Venus starts its retrograde period in Capricorn at 26 degrees and goes back to 11 degrees of Capricorn before moving forward again on January 28. Capricorn brings a Saturnian flavor which means rules, restrictions and responsibility. The plus side is being rewarded for the hard work. This cycle simply means the energy is turning inward. We are looking at creating inner versus outer harmony.

Questions on how to work with this type of set up:

1. What needs transforming in my current life?

2. Do I create or destroy?

3. What must die in my life for life to grow again?

4. What responsibility do I take to create a joyful life?

All of December, Neptune in Pisces sextiles Uranus in Taurus. This water and earth compatibility offers opportunities for creativity, exploring states of consciousness and letting go of fear that inhibit us. It’s a great time to connect with nature, and practice silence to create balance and restabilizing.

On any given day, there are numerous aspects taking place in the cosmos and whether we are conscious or not is irrelevant. These planetary connections are happening for you and not at you.
